This Week’s Announcements

MISSION APPEAL: The following message was received during the week from Fr Alabi MSP – “On behalf of the Missionary Society of St Paul, I write to thank you for your kindness and warm reception of Fr Kingsley Onyekwere MSP and the generous contribution and support of your beloved parishioners of St Ann’s and St Christopher’s Churches in Ashton. We truly appreciate your commitment to training MSP seminarians and sending MSP priests to spread the love of Christ to rural and urban communities” The sum of £398.03 was raised.
NEW PARISH ADMINISTRATOR: we formally welcome Jane, our new parish administrator, who has now taken over from Karol. We are grateful for all Karol achieved within a short space of time, and we wish him all the best as he begins his formation to the priesthood with the Dominicans at the end of August. Please continue to hold him and his brothers in your prayers.
50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: As Fr. Joachin Nwaorgu turns 50 on August 15th, he invites all to join him and celebrate on Thursday the 27th. Thanksgiving Mass will be at St. Ann's Church, Burlington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne Time at 6pm. Refreshments will be immediately after Mass in St. Ann's Church Hall. Please save the date!
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME 2027: the details for next year’s programme for first holy communion can be found in the notice board at the back of the Church.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME: relies on volunteers to keep it running. Without our volunteers we could not have First Holy Communion Mass each year for our children. We are looking to expand the number of volunteers we have. This could be looking after the juice and biscuits and brews for our volunteers, or working in small groups with the children. We would support you and give the necessary training. If you can’t volunteer for all 6 sessions, we can accommodate any help you can offer, covering for someone who can’t make it, or just supporting the smooth running of the sessions. If you would like to learn please speak to Jane Holgate or Lindsey Spilsbury for more information. Alternatively, you can email sacramentalprogrammeashton@gmail.com
SVP DAY TRIP: If you have had your place confirmed to go on the SVP trip to Lytham St Ann’s on Tuesday 11th August, please be at St Christopher’s for 9.15am or St Ann’s for 9.30am. We will leave Lytham at 3.30pm to return to Ashton. There is no charge for this trip, but we would appreciate a donation of £5 if you are able to. We have a number of children going and we would like to give them some money to spend on the day.
MARCH FOR LIFE 2026: If you would like to attend the March for Life, some members of the Diocese will be Travelling on Saturday 5 September from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston departing 07:34 arriving 09:41. There will be Mass at Westminster Cathedral at 10:30am, and Bishop John is attending this year. We would then depart from Euston on the 18:33 train arriving back at Piccadilly 20:44.
